The 1981 AFC Championship, better known as “The Freezer Bowl”, was played at -9 degree temperatures and 35 miles-per-hour wind gusts. The weather and the Bengals defense proved to be too tough an obstacle for the San Diego Charger’s powerful “Air Coryell” offense, being held to just six points. The victory also sent Cincinnati to their first ever Super Bowl appearance.

  2. Chargers were so talented they didn't show up for this game emotionally spent from the epic in Miami and too cold to operate their high-powered offense definitely would've gave the niners a better game in the super bowl.

  3. I bet im the only one in youtube history that went from watching a billie eilish video to watching this game in succession.

  4. Don Bass, who recovered the fumble on the kick off was murdered about 7 years later. This was his final game in Cincinnati as he played for the Saints in 1982 and then never played again. Bobby Kemp, Safety for the Bengals, committed suicide 16 years later. Sad endings for some of these guys.

  5. I grew up watching Montana, so maybe Fouts before my time, but he sure doesn’t look as good as his reputation would imply

  6. San Diego looked like this -9 we want no part of..Bengals looked like this our domain..we love the cold.

  7. Only game colder than this one was the Championship Game or known as the 'Ice Bowl' up in Green Bay where it was – 15 at kick off and – 20 at the end of the game.

  8. Only game colder than this one was the Championship Game or known as the 'Ice Bowl' up in Green Bay where it was – 15 at kick off and – 20 at the end of the game.

  9. In my humble opinion, Ken Anderson is the Best QB of all times. He was a marvel in all kind of throws, great accuracy, great leadership, very mobile. If he had played in an elite team like Steelers, Cowboys, Raiders or Dolphins in the 70’s, he could easily win multiple Super Bowls

  10. People need to stop saying San Diego was better then the Bengals. They weren't the Bengals won this game & what nobody in the National Press says Cincinnati beat the Chargers 41-17 in the regular season in San Diego.

  11. "you have to be a mathematician to figure out the difference"

apparently you have to be a genius to figure out 84 + 59….

  12. This was an insane football game, but the Chargers avenged it 33 years later, beating the heavily favored Bengals in a game where the temps were about 60 degrees warmer.

  13. Here March 2020 the add that has that sexy redhead askin job interview questions is the first ad I’ve ever been drawn into she’s so fine

  14. If the Dolphins would’ve beaten the Chargers the prior week, would this game have been played in Cincinnati or Miami?

  15. The chargers would have won this game in better weather. The super bowl would have been better against the niners

  16. Cincinnati isn't exactly a warm weather locale but when you think of conditions like this usually a place like Green Bay, Buffalo, or Minnesota(before the dome was built) comes to mind before Cincinnati does. Minus 59 degrees is to the point of being dangerously cold temperatures. Alot of the snowflake primadonnas in the league nowadays would probably refuse to play in these conditions

  17. I miss those old games I was a freshman in high school that season. Back when it was allowed to smoke cigarettes in the sidelines and as a fan in the seats😂👌🏽
