  2. Always thought that Cris Collingsworth would have to write on chalkboard 5000 tiles how Lewis Billups blew a near game sealing

  3. I remember being unable to watch that game in 89 , it was rainy in Montreal walking alone on the street !!!! i was so frustrate about it …Just remembering how time fly by so fast !!!!

  4. Eerily similar to how this and super bowl 33 were.

    -both games were in Miami.
-both games had surprise underdogs against a supposed powerhouse.
-both games featured a power back who had invented a catchy touchdown celebration. Ironically neither scored a touchdown in the super bowl and didn’t get to do their dances. And they’d both blow out their knees the next season.
-both games had kick sixes by the losing team.
-both times the loser lost to a team that either was going for back to back Super Bowls or would achieve that distinction.
-both teams had a player get in trouble the night before (Stanley Wilson and Eugene Robinson)
-both winning quarterbacks were future Hall of famers

  5. Can't believe Walsh gave up with 4th and 1 twice! Both time deep in Bengal territory And Montana looked "average." 49'er defence, Rice & Craig made the game. the 4th qtr TD i would have gone for 2 because Cinnci would still have to score a TD to win and they would have burned another 5 or more seconds off the clock.

  6. I wonder if they completely resodded the entire field before Super Bowl XXIII? The middle of the field, especially where the NFL shield was at the 50 yard line, but you would think they WOULD HAVE resodded the ENTIRE field for Super Bowl XXIII, especially after the Orange Bowl football game

  7. I live in Ohio and it was huge to have a team in the Superbowl. In 1987 I was in 6th grade and remember this game well. The friday before the game our school had a party and after a couple hours we all went to the cafeteria and had a huge meal. The rest of the day we could go outside in play or watch TV and eat all the goodies we wanted. This was my last year in elementary and it was my favorite.

  8. I'm not a Bengals fan, but that dropped interception, and ending was painful AF.
They literally let this game slip away.
They still haven't recovered from it over 30 years later IMO.

  9. SF could have blown Bengals out but they made so many mistakes….aside from the 4th QTR SF actually had a horrible game. Yet all this game is known for is the game winning drive. What made it more epic, was typically in this Super bowl Era these games were usually blowouts
